Big thanks to the seniors of Cape Fear Academy for coming out today to volunteer. They planted saplings, tended to our Swan pond, did some painting and got acquainted with many of the animals. If you want to schedule a visit on site for a school group or club to do a project, or just come for an educational talk with some of our ambassadors, make sure to book your summer slot now! Credit: For Fox Sake Wildlife RescueRehabilitators get a lot of well-meaning calls this time of year from people who have found fledglings and mistaken them for being orphaned or injured. A fledgling is a juvenile bird that has recently left the nest. Many fledglings are still clumsy flyers, and may look like they’re either too young to leave the nest or like they have a broken wing or leg. They can generally fly very short distances, but may not be very graceful and it may be fairly easy to catch them. Please leave fledglings with their parents so they can finish growing up as nature intended! You can keep them safe during this stage of their development by keeping your cats indoors and by giving them space to them and their parents. ... See MoreSee Less
